Omg how did I miss this?? How precious! Congrats, that's a pretty good hatch (=

I too wish the new model was ready because I've been seriously thinking of buying a 2nd reptipro then try to hatch 18 emu eggs rather than 9! Ooh thatd be great, hubby might kill me, but oh well lol.

Well I think I might get skunked on this group of eggs....it doesn't look like anything is thinking about hatching. Granted, they are due tomorrow but I just have a sinking feeling that my eggs got here well scrambled by the PO.

I seem to have a humidity problem. I can't get it over 65% and even getting it that high is really hard. There is lots of water in the bottom. The last 2 chicks are stuck.
They are drier now than they were in this picture. Oh....man.....

Jump in there and help those little guys! You can gently help them out by peeling the egg away.

During winter virtually everyone has dry air which causes issues with hatching. The best thing to do is every time you open the door during "lockdown" or the last 3 days of incubation be sure and mist the sides and inside door of the incubator. Everytime you open the door it is releasing humidity so be sure to do that as little as possible. Also on the 18th day or last time you open the door be sure and spritz as well. This will dramatically increase your humidity and should prevent this "shrink wrapping" that you are seeing.

Also because only 2 got stuck they may have been weak for any number of reasons including genetic issues. Next time be sure to try the spritzing so that we can eliminate that as an issue.

We will be making a hatching video very soon to walk people through these and other steps of incubation. We will also cover a wide variety of issues some people have with incubation in general and hopefully be able to provide some tips and tricks that have worked for us in the past.

I guess it was too little, too late. I went to help them last night once I just couldn't take it anymore. I started with the one that was more open and had been trying longer. I ran hot water (not scalding of course) and gently dabbed it with a wash cloth and peeled back little tiny bits of shell. I got it pretty much out and saw that it hadn't absorbed the yoke. I didn't pull the part of the shell off that was near the yoke. It was pretty distressed so I spritzed it and set it back in the incubator, said a little prayer and went to bed. The incubator is in the baby's room because that is the only really safe place and so I couldn't check on it all night. I heard it peeping LIKE CRAZY and assumed it was probably peeping for its life. It stopped peeping slowly around 2am. I figured it had died. Baby just got up 5 minutes ago and it is ALIVE!!!! It's in the back so I can't see if or how much of the yoke it is dragging around. So I should probably take it out and clean the hard guck off of it???

The 4th one is also still alive!!! It's too dry also but now I'm worried about it having not absorbed the yoke either. Should I go on and spritz and keep it in the incubator?

I can't believe that chickie is alive!!! I was so ready to get to the incubator first so the kids didn't find a dead chickie. I am amazed!
