Reptipro 5000 Hatch-A-Long (=

does your's have the notches by the door frame where the turner cord would feed through?

if so you can try running some air line tubing through one of the notches and connect it to a running aquarium air pump

unless Chris has made some changes to his original design there isn't any air exchange from outside to inside the incubator.. so I always open the door several times during the day and at night when I get up to allow for more fresh air to enter the incubator

Yes, I have the notches...and right now I am only going to be running one turner for the 1st setting of eggs, so that does leave one notch free, but
once I set the 2nd turner in, both notches are filled. So I guess I'll try your method of opening up the incubator a couple times per day, especialy after the 1st week. I don't plan to hatch in the reptipro, and my hatcher is an old hovabator, so I have plenty of ventilation for hatching.
Her goes!!!

Yinepu,

Have you tried to widen or enlarge the notches in the door frame a little?
I would like them to be bigger to accommodate an aquarium air tube. Also, I'm a bit concerned that CO2 would build up in there if the door couldn't be opened at least once a day.

I never have (I'm a big fan of opening the door personally)

I know when Msheets first came up with the idea she mentioned that she would contact Chris at Reptipro and ask him how to add notches because her bator didn't have them.. i am assuming that he gave her the go ahead.. so you may want to call and ask just so you dont ruin your warranty . Since I don't work for Reptipro I don't want to tell you to actually alter the bator without Chris' blessings

What have others found to be a good setting to maintain the temps within the reptipro around the 99.5-100.5 range?
I do notice the temps at the top of the reptipro 600 are about 1 degree warmer than temps on the bottom.
Right now I have the setting at 102, and I am getting 100.7F near the top shelf and 99.4 near the bottom.

i think the display on mine is at 101... but I would have to go look since I ignore it 9 days out of 10

so in essence the display does not matter.. it's the temp at the shelf level where you are planning to incubate the eggs that matters

Hi y'all!
Chris didn't end up answering me over making my own notches & whether it would void my warranty so I still don't know if it would or not. What I did was run the tubing into the incubator then shut the door as much as it would go without kinking it & used a strip of wallpaper sticker so it could be easily peeled back when the door needed upen. If you wanted you could use the strip of wallpaper sticker & cut another strip of some kind of insulation (cloth, foam, whatever you want) to run up the middle of the sticker/tape big enoug to fill the crack between the door & bator.

I didn't use the second strip (just the tape) & the temp stayed fine for me.

What you're doing is what I do & it works but if you really want your shelves' temp to be closer together you can fill up the bottom with something. With chicken eggs the temp difference didn't matter so much to me but with my emu eggs it did so this is what I did. Now if your bator is completely full you can't but if you're only using a self or 2 & not the bottom then by filling it up it's a smaller space to heat & stays more constant...I used a stack of DVD cases lol, they fit so I didn't search further.
