Reptipro 5000 Hatch-A-Long (=

Well, after reading here about the Brinsea and fan issues, it occurred to me when I installed my fan in my red bator now gonna be just a hatcher, I pointed the fan blowing down :/ so... I went in and it is now installed blowing from back to front. And I have fixed the last of my issues with it! I have installed a humidistat connected to a fish tank air pump to automate my humidity (and I love it), now my hygrometer at egg level reads what my humidistat is set at, I was having to set it at least 10 points higher then I wanted it, now it is spot on!

I am going to start a new thread for a new hatch along - hoping y'all join me.

It came today! Got is set up and running. Just watching "it" now..lol..with no eggs in it. Have to ask, what are the cups for..reptile/quial eggs? I'm thinking one of those might be good for the humidity, then two for lock down humidity.

We'll see.
My biggest worry after reading all of this...my therm/hydgrom's won't be right. I don't have two that read the same..and I have a lot! I just pick the ones that are reading really close..but, the big ones are not going to fit into that bator. I need to order some like yin has, but that will take time. I will be setting eggs in the morning..good timing..I got two orders of eggs today..Silkies and leghorn/Ameraucana mix! Different ey..they sent some olive eggers too. Very pretty. I guess I will put the thinner of the two readers that I have in front..I hope, haven't tried it yet.
Is it pretty easy to change the eggs from shelf to shelf with the turners? I am wondering about those turners. Having to mess with that cord, getting it right into that notch is going to be a hassle when I have to open the bator a few times a day, then hold them in place to shut it..they won't stay in place. I am pretty sure it's the smaller part of the cord that goes into the notch..right?
Oh well here we go..hope this is a good bator, I have some expensive eggs going in, in the morning. Will be watching it tomorrow too once those eggs are in.

I used a little piece of clear tape snug across the wire where it goes into the notch and haven't had any problems. After handling the turners a couple times I think you'll find it's not really a big deal to take them in and out.

Well the only one of mine that pipped isn't doing well. It pipped and then didn't make any progress all night. I peeled back some of the shell and the membrane is so hard its nearly a shell itself. I cranked up the humidity and put a warm wash cloth around it but I'm feeling like it's been shrink wrapped too long. Still peeping, poor little thing. Since my first hatch was also pretty shrink wrapped I'm wondering if my humidity reader is off.

Oh how sad to hear that little thing peeping in there. I'm afraid to peel back that hard membrane because I don't want to pull on it's feathers and skin.

I've helped many out..wet the membrane, take a peek to see how plump the blood vessels look. If the beak is out and not the nostril part, you need to clear the nostrils so it can breath so the membrane doesn't shrink over them. Even if there is a little blood while doing this, it's ok, get the nostrils..clear. Then if there is blood, the baby can hang out today until you have gone back every couple of hrs to peel some egg shell back. Just take your time. :)

If it's all curled up and dried for too long, will it uncurl?

It's curled up in the shell? Yes, it will uncurl. It will be weaker than the chicks that hatch themselves out. It may take a day for it to perk up. Once it's out, try and keep it on it's belly. It may keep it's eyes closed for a while, that's ok..then you hope for the best. Mine more often than not make it. Just takes them longer to "wake up." Good luck!
