Has anyone used an old 4 cube storage bin to make their nesting boxes? Any advise? I plan to give it a 3 inch lip to keep the nesting materials in. Read somewhere there should be a roost and it should be at leah 18 inches off the ground.... is this right? TIA

Could work.
Minimum nest size, IMO, is 12 x 12 x 12....mine are 14 x 14 x 16 with 10" diameter entrance.
Must be stable, not tip or move when bird is in or on it.
Perches about 8" out in front are a good idea if up off the ground, they like something to land on and check it out before entering nests.
Nests can be at floor level, mine are elevated to maximize floor space in coop and so I don't have to bend over to gather eggs.
