Repurposing furniture as coops

For those of us who consider repurposing a piece of furniture as a small coop, is there a type of material we should consider that will withstand rain and snow? Does it matter if it is painted over top?

Laminate over pressboard( like kitchen counters, or
cheap book cases,etc) does Not stand up to weather well.
I dont know about paint.
Ehat sort of furniture are you thinking of? My friend repurposed a vanity cabinet gor some pullets. Only meant for temporary,
It works well. Do t know how mant seasons it would last though.
