Has anyone heard of Gabbard Farms? I am very much interested in purchasing day old Marans chicks, and Gabbard Farms sells them. Just wondering if anyone has had any dealings with them.

I have not dealt with them personally, but I've heard mediocre to poor reviews on them. Personally, I think that if you have THAT many breeds, I don't see how you can do any one of them terribly well....

Thank you for the information. Perhaps I'll stick with Chickens for Backyards. I've heard some bad reviews on Meyer Hatchery.

It's always best to go with a private breeder. Hatcheries or large producers of chicks go with quantity over quality. They breed for production, and in doing so, many lose even the most basic breed characteristics.

What I would do it try to find a poultry sale near you and get them from there....Also I was able to go to a local feed store and they gave me a name and a number for a local farm. I call them and it just so happened that they had what I was looking for.

Good luck!
