I rescued this hen from a “second hand” advertisement. She came with a homemade coop which was too small. She’d been kept by herself for 5 months and was only let out of that ”coop” when the father remembered to lift it up so she could get out. They were completely unaware of chicken care, but still cut a significant portion of her wings off to keep her from escaping. I know this is a common practice, but it really should be done by someone with at least a little knowledge.

I go into this story to explain why she looks as she does. The hacked off wings, the black greasy looking ear area (I can’t find sign of ear mites), broken feathers around her neck - the coop was so short she had to crouch down.

At last to my questions 🤣
any idea what breed or breed mix? She’s supposed to be 5 months and is laying.
any ideas on the cause of the black greasy look of her ”ear” feathers? Nearest chicken vet miles
how long might it take to completely integrate with the others - 3 of them and 4 mos old.
I did try to separate and quarantine, but she was not having that - lonely and desperate.
she is very slightly food aggressive - she was kept in starving circumstances; fed when they remembered and I’d guess completely on chicken scratch - there was no food or water when I arrived.

she is keeping the name the children who owned her gave “Pecky Becky” 🤣
any suggestions/recommendations would be great. I’ve had her one week
