I have a duck about 5 months old that I rescued from an old friend, her legs are bad and she doesnt walk the best but shes still moving and functioning. The only problem I'm having now, is that bc she walks differently, eith her tail feathers pointed down, my young rooster thinks shes a chicken and keeps trying to mate with her. He jumps on her back and pulls her head up. I have to stop him all the time. I'm so worried hes going to do it when I'm not around. Luckily she tends to stay by my slider door so I can see her easily. Is there anything I can do to stop him from trying to mate with her?? I'm worried about her. Thank you!

Sorry to hear about your duck.

Could you upload a video of her walking to a video platform like Youtube or Vimeo, and copy/paste the link here?

Have you checked her foot pads for any sign of Bumblefoot, checked her legs for any swelling, redness, or irregular warmness in spots?

As far as the Rooster problem goes, you have three options, (get rid of the rooster) sell/rehome, or butcher, make a separate pen for one of the birds, or find a new home for the duck.

If you choose to separate the chicken and the ducks, we separated ours when one of our duck was broody and the chicken kept bothering her. Depending on the size and shape of your pen, You might be able to put fence panels down the middle of the pen and coop so it's split in half. Hope this helps!
