Just found a rescue that had three ducklings and we decided to take all three. This will be my first set of ducklings of my own. We are pretty sure two of them are 3 week old Khaki Campbell ducklings and we have no idea what the third 2 week old little one is. He is all brown.

We got them in a 90 gallon rubbermaid tote and large flake pine shavings. We placed a reptile heating rock with a receiving blanket on top. They are all snuggled up and seem to be doing great.

If anyone could help identify what breed this little brown guy is I would appreciate it. Also, when will I be able to tell what sex the Khaki ducklings are.

Thanks!

the 2 big ones are likely rouen ducks and the smaller brown one may be a khaki campbell

You should start to get an idea of sex around 6-7 weeks as the girls start quacking and the boys are raspy.

The big ones aren't Campbells, I will promise you that but the small brown one is, the big ones are rouens. You can tell they are rouens because they have 2 stripes on their heads while mallards only have 1. Google Rouen ducklings and you will see, and the smallest one IS a khaki Campbell. The khaki if a female will give you lots of eggs and the rouens will be very big and be the color of mallards. You can voice sex them in a few weeks as the females will quack and the males will sound like someone whispering peep.

Anyone know what I can do to get these little guys to warm up to me a bit? They are 3 weeks old. I am hoping that we will be buddies :) right now they seem really scared. Does it get better over time? I don't want to stress them.

It is easier if they are even younger. But you could try hanging out with them one on one, I have snuggle time while I watch tv or anything else that I am sitting still. I take one at a time for a few minutes each and then the entire group for a few minutes too.

Oh and treats :)

This will take time and patience. If you want to make them friendlier than you have to start by just sitting with them and maybe try hand feeding them and let that be the only way they have access to food so they associate food with you. You should spend every day for atleast an hour just sitting with them and hand feeding them. After a week or two they should warm up to you and then you should try to hold them. They will be very scared even though you hand fed them but hold them until they stop peeping and just rub them, do this with all of the ducks and just sit there with them. This takes a lot of time and patience but they will be very nice to you glad to help.
