Hi, I have a gamey mutt bantam size rescue hen of undetermined age that I have had for three weeks now. She was in deplorable condition when I got her. She lived in a tiny wire bottom cage and was given scraps for food. She has some sort of neurological problems, which cause unsteadiness in her gaits, but this has improved greatly with quality food, room to run and TLC.
OK, here is the question: She eats and drinks lots [yeah] but when she poos, she makes a squeak type noise and it appears that it is hard for her to poo. She has two types of poos; dark with no white cap or watery w/ alittle dark firm poos. I do give her grit. Anyone ever experience anything like this?

not sure what is up with the pooping, but wanted to say good for you for taking her in. I would give her some vitamins in her food to see if her neurological problems are due to a vitamin deficiency, could be seeing she was not well cared for.I have had this happen to one of my hens, she could not walk , after two weeks of vitamins she was fine and still is. give her some B12 in her feed, you can get chicken vitamins from the feed store(best thing) or get human powdered pills that you can pull apart and sprinkle the powder on the food for her and some electrolyte solution in the water will give her a boost too. good luck

Thank you for the vitamin idea...will run to Walmart for the poly-vi-sol...never thought of that--
