Rescue -- Sex? (Shamo?)

Side image, apologies for poor quality. Stands around 70cm.

Also in the UK, if that helps. It's a huge thing. Kinda scary. :D

I wonder if it somehow escaped from somebody. Seems like a nice bird to just dump.

I definitely believe this is a case. That said, it's missing feathers from its chest and the top of his wings so I'm not sure if that's a sign of neglect or anything so admittedly my priority has been finding a rescue so far. Will be doing some checks tomorrow with locals to see if it belongs to any of them, if not I'll continue down the sanctuary route.

This whole thing has been an incredibly novel experience. It's surreal to see such a huge creature to be strutting around the house like it owns the place!

I'd love to keep him; heck, I'd love to keep birds in general but currently have a husky so it's out of the question. He's a nosey little sod.

Those birds tend to have some bare spots on their chests. I don't know about the wings though.

It is a male aseel. I am one hundred percent sure. They have bald patches on the tops of shoulder blades. They are kept primarily for exhibition or cock fighting (illegal). They are brought over as eggs from Pakistan. I urge you to keep it and take care of it because whoever lost it probably did not have good intentions, unfortunately. I have quite a lot of experience in this.

Male aseels absolutely cannot be kept together, nor with any other cockerel, so do not be tempted to get another cock to keep it company. It would be happiest with a hen or two, but I caution against getting aseel hens, because even the females can fight to the death sometimes.
