Been looking for a set of mallards and Muscovy's have peaked my interest. Well I found some for sale that were headed to auction. Got a mallard drake, 2 mallard hens and a male and female Muscovy pair. They couldn't be happier in their new home. Conditions weren't the best where they came from. That gives me 10 ducks along with a slew of chickens lol

Lovely new additions!!!

Just out of curiosity, how old are the Muscovies? Are you sure on the genders? I’m asking as your drake looks to be the same size as your hen and the mallards :)

Edited to add - Are the other 3 Mallards or just young Rouens?

P.S. I’m only asking about the Muscovy genders as I’m pretty new to owning ducks and I’m horrid at sexing any breed that does not grow a drake feather. I’m not at all doubting your knowledge. I’m just curious :)

I am new at this as well. I was told the Muscovies are 2 years old and that the one way to tell a male muscovy is the bump on the top of the beak. The male is the white one. In the first pic you can see the bump.

I was told they are mallards, I questioned if they were Rouens and apparently they came from the amish as who told the original owners they are mallards. They appear to be mallards to me. At least the drake does.

Does he hiss? He just looks so elegant and small :) Maybe it’s just the camera angle ;)

I have not heard him hiss yet. They are enjoying their new space compared to where they came from but they are still "flighty" nervous.

You have me wondering about the mallard hens now , if they are in fact rouens lol.
