Rescued a very neglected Indian Runner.. need advice pls

Got any updates pictures of her? So happy she’s doing better!!

Here are 3 I took yesterday when we graduated out of the playpen onto the sunroom floor in an expen.

And thank you!! I am so proud of her! She has done far better than I could have imagined - just needed some love and care.

I wish i had taken photos of when I picked her up. Sad but yes, would have been nice to see the change. The only photo I have is of her feet that I posted - and that was after 2 swims in my tub

Alright. Well everyone (the ducks ) was crying and running back and forth beside the expen together … so I did it. I opened the door and waited to see what would happen. Some people will be ok with my decision… some won’t.

But I am so proud of her. Here are some photos of their very first meeting. She is fitting in!!! My wonderful ducks have been amazing to her. Hazel is a feisty girl Bossy. But my ducks have accepted her right in .

BTW, your black duck with white on the neck reminds me of one of mine that I lost last year. She was named Grace Kelly -- because she looked so elegant in formal black attire with a "pearl" necklace.

That is so awesome!! Congrats on having it all go so good. Just gives you a warm feeling to see them be so accepting. To Runners the more the merrier. lol

Is there a reason her breathing would be louder??

I had a girl who took longer than her hatch mates to figure out how to groom and waterproof herself, she used to breathe loudly while swimming as well. I think maybe she was working harder to swim, since she didn't float as well.
Once she figured out how to waterproof, she stopped breathing so hard in the water. Until then, I just kept a close eye on her whenever she had access to the stock tank pool.

Oh interesting!! Thank you. I’ve been listening carefully and don’t hear it when she’s out of water. But that does make sense since her little feet are always kicking when she swims! Whereas my other ducks float around a bit more

Hello everyone it’s me again / I am hoping for some advice on my little lady Hazel. Who has completely healed up, is coming up to me for treats (altho doesn’t eat out of my hand yet) and looks amazingly healthy!! my sweet girl.

But! Her molt took a while … she only finished maybe 2 weeks ago. I supplement their duck/geese feed with fresh veg daily & crumbled shells. Hazel doesn’t forage tho. She only eats the pellets and sometimes treats.

As of recently tho (2 weeks). She spends alot of time in the coop. She never used to do this. She would always wander with the ducks, lie down next to where they were foraging. (She lies down ALOT). I’ve checked her out many many times for injuries and can find nothing.

I’ve still seen no eggs at all. Which is fine, but the getting out of the coop first thing and then heading back there for hours worries me a tad.
She walks differently as well but I wonder if it’s genetics … perhaps inbreeding.

We have a fountain and she LOVES it. She adores water. (I suspect she had none before I brought her home). She will spend hours hunched over the fountain with her beak lying in the water

I’ll try to post a few photos.

But can anyone advise:
- a lot of lying down
- back to the coop for hours

I just want to be sure she is having the best life she can. I love her to bits. By the way - she is the boys’ favorite. They protect her, allow her to eat first, sleep next to her. But haven’t mated her yet. They try they flirt but she is fast hahah. They’ve never been successful. But I am happy to see she is protected. The boys come running when she honks.

Sounds like a niacin deficiency. I would go pick up some Durvet B complex from tractor supply and dose her 1 ml daily.
