Rescued and hooked

My wife and I picked a meat bird up that fell of the truck. We know the bird will not live long, weeks, maybe a few months. We decided to keep her as a pet until she dies. She may not last long, but she will be comfortable and her impact on us will last for years. We now have an interest in raising birds for eggs, so this weekend is study, prep and coop building plans.

Welcome to the world of chicken addiction! Good for you for rescuing her, and trying to give her some quality of life for her remaining days. There have been a few threads on here about people finding meat birds that have "fallen off the truck" It blows my mind, that so little care is given to these poor birds that this is not a rare occurrence. So sad. I'm happy for your hen that she did escape, however.

Your thread title caught my eye and I had to have a look. Fantastic way to get into chicken keeping, that is! Is it a chicken you rescued or a turkey? I recall a member here finding and rescuing a turkey that met the same fate. Sadly the poor thing didn't live long, but it had a wonderful last few days and so much love. Best of luck with your new venture and rescued bird. We're here if you need help or advice.

That is terrible that a bird fell off a truck like that. But how nice of you to try to give her a decent life until her time comes. Good luck with her and your coop building.
You will love raising chickens. They are very interesting animals and a joy to be around.
