I have recently rescued a 4 day old chick with a dislocated hip. I originally thought it was a broken leg and splinted it but the more I examine her I think it is dislocated. Does anybody have any suggestions? My vet kind of just went "hmm" and I am trying to find any info that I can. She's eating/drinking/moving about ok but has trouble with that leg going out from under her. She has become quite spoiled in our house so I hope there is something I can do for her. Thanks for any advice.

Tape the two legs a normal distance apart with a fabric bandage. That should help bring the leg into place so things can develop normally. DO it ASAP though because if you leave it like that for long it will never be right as chicks grow so fast it will literally grow deformed. It's worth a shot but trying to fix a splayed leg does not always work out.

Site update: If it’s of any help to anyone in the future, the Poultry Podiatry website on chicken orthopedics & leg problems has moved to the new location linked in my sig line below.

Very glad the site is being of help!

Please sir I don't think my chickens legs broken because it's hanging it way off to the side like it's dislocated from the hip sweet Jesus I don't know what happened to it the chicks four or five days old and it's been like this for 2 days now I rubbed it and I exercised the leg and I swear it look like it went back to normal but then I went back after praising God and it was back how it was so maybe the rotator cup in the hips broke I need help the poor little thing the poor little thing so cute the poor little thing counts on me to take care of it and I don't know how to do it and I can't afford a vet I have to save the vet money for my 14-year-old dog cuz she's always acting up not that the chicken doesn't deserve it it's just that they're just too expensive for birds I'm a bad owner I guess I just wanted to hatch some eggs and enjoy some chicken again
