Hello all,

We rescued a chicken 3 days ago that wandered onto a friend’s place of business. The chicken’s beak seems to have been clipped or injured and is very short. Im not sure if she was a commercial bird or if she was just injured. She seems to be eating and drinking fine the last few days but has zero interest in the rest of my flock and is spending a lot of the day just sitting on my porch. We set up a predator reinforced dog kennel on the porch for night time. Any idea on whether her beak will grow back? And how to acclimate her to the flock without her being bullied? She’s very gentle and fearful. I’m fairly new to chicken keeping so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I have attached picture references.

Looks like a Battery Hen or commercial hen.

Her beak has been clipped, and no, it will not grow back.

After a proper quarantine period of about 3weeks observation, then you can start introducing her to the others. Keep her in her own pen close to the others so they can see each other.

Your existing flock may bully her, hard to know. Chickens are not nice.

She is a red sexlink and could be from a commercial egg production place. They trim their hens' beaks to stop them from pecking each other. I don't know how she escaped, but she's very lucky since most of these hens become animal food after 18 month old.

Thank you for your advice! Going to try it out with those suggestions and hope for the best 🤞

Yes that is what I figured-we live in an area with a few poultry factories/hatcheries so I assumed that’s where she came from, and yes I agree she is very lucky-I’m going to try my best to give her a good life :) Fingers crossed for a healthy next few weeks and smooth integration with the rest of my flock eventually
