There is no better feeling to me then to save a 4 legged life from the pound or a very bad situation. I have a house full of rescues. I have a 10 year old rat terrier that actually escaped from a lady's puppy mill. when the police came to shut her down , chilli actually escaped and could not be caught. they never found her and a week later and 4 miles down the road someone saw her and caught her and took her to the humane society in town. When I rescued her she was filthy, and been urinated on continusly by a male who had been in the pen small cage with her, ( the male also escaped but was never found).
The lady at the humane society said the vet had checked her and she was about 5 years old. I took her to my vet and she was filled with heartworms, fleas, had rotting teeth, and looked about 5 pounds underweight, and has constant trachea problems from a too tight collar. You can still see where her collar was as it took all the hair off her neck and never grew back. I had her spayed and the doctor said she is about 10 years old, had at least 6 litters or more and had a mamary tumor. We paid lots of money to fix her up and she is now heartworm free, and one of the best little dogs I have other had. I also pretty much stole a boxer from a horrible puppy mill. The owner said she would not breed, and was "sick or somethin and she was not no good to him any more" so when I asked what he was going to do with her and he said take her to the woods and shoot her, I basically went back at night and took her out of there and never looked back. When we took her in she was flea ridden, 15 pounds under weight, diagnosed with severe dysplastic hips on both sides and she had been pregnant at least 4 times and was very ill. She is only 5 years old now and we have had her almost a year. Well needless to say she has gained the weight is now spayed and even with really bad hip dysplaysia she is on meds and can run and play with all the dogs and she is awesome. We also rescued a dane mix fromn the pound and I have a pit bull we stole from a suspected drug house, and he is the sweetest guy and a certified therapy dog now. The love I get when I look in these eyes of these trusting 4 legged friends just can't be beat. trudy
