Rescued Duckling... newbie

Oh good to hear your not thinking of giving them up.

Give poultry vitamins no more than 1-2X a week unless your treating something like molt then they can have it for a boost while going though molt or stressful times. But good quality protein is great for feather growth. A small handful of cat kibble or dog kibble between them both would help with feathers. My ducks just like my dogs beg for treats all the time but They only get treats 1X a day and they have to share. lol treats here consists of according to highest and lowest Dried meal worms dog kibble and whole corn. half cup of corn and kibble. during winter when cold they do get a cup of corn to share between them all.

I've never tried Dumor so can't give a review.

People always seem to want to give their opinions even when not asked.

I think that is what was wrong with the third bag I got, I got a big one because they were eating more but the wouldn't touch it. So, I kinda had to mix it so they would eat it and not just treats. But they're doing better with the Purina. They'll eat it not mixed. And yes, they are spoiled... I've been working on the diaper putting on, finally got the right pads to go in, but the darn things stick like epoxy glue to the inside of the diaper... And they don't just whine about it, they sulk too and act like I'm a mean momma.

People really do, I don't mind opinions or being given advice - it only bothers me when they get angry or go I told you to do this... when I don't take their advice or agree with them. An example:
I made a post about imprinting on fb, and how I was frustrated. I frustrated because of family arguments over my ducks. And a friend pops off with I told you to take it to the pond. I was like im not frustrated with speedy, but with everyones attitude towards me and them.*shrugs*

Doesn't it make you wonder why people can't understand the relationship we can have with these ducks. Maybe if more folks tried it there would be a lot less stress and evil going on.

I used a duck diaper with my drake when he was young but finally just let him lose in the house since we have old wood floors and just use paper towels and water and vinegar mixed for clean up. Now having 2 ducks running lose inside would make my dogs really happy they love to clean up after the birds :sick

LOL!!!

Sooooo, speedy is now a flyer. Im kinda excited and like really freaked out at the same time. I dont want to clip her wings, but she scared me yesterday. Fancy and her got off my enclosed porch while I was inside loading dishes real quick, I came out and saw them on my driveway... speedy saw me and it was kinda like look momma at what I can do, and she took off flying. I was like "Speedy!!!" went to run after, remembered fancy, tried to get him back on porch, and saw speedy fly past the back of the house and i called again. Left fancy to check on her and she had landed in the neighbors yard... she just kinda stood there waiting for me to come get her. Oh, man. . I had a heart attack imagining all sorts of things.

At first, I didn't know they grew back with every only, and I didn't want to ground her if something happened to me. Then I found out the grow back, and I don't know - honestly kinda worried I'd injure her if I tried it alone, which is what would happen since I live alone.
I found a vet, but I don't want the risk of them taking them. I haven't been able to find anything that says a permit is required to have them as pets.

Raenh dear, you are one of my favorite people on this forum. But I wish you could somehow stop driving yourself crazy! With the amount of freaking out, worrying and other things, it is a wonder you haven't had a heart attack! (j/k)
Of course I wish the best for you, and I am NOT criticizing--only remarking. It really does not have to be so emotionally stressful. I bet at times, you must feel like an over-protective parent! But at some point, if you can relax a little tiny bit, I feel you would be happier about things. --Just my take, and I honestly don't mean anything by it. I'd just like to see you with a bit less stress.

I hold my Muscovy between my knees head facing out pull out wing and clip I understand it is stressful when first done but if you follow the diagram you can do it. I have a really good diagram if you'd like.
I have clipped my scovy's wings since 2004 and so far have never made them bleed and have kept them safe from flying off and getting lost or killed.

Believes me, im sure I've come close to it. I worry more about them than I ever did any of my cats except Lilly... she tends to like to play with things that are meaner than she is, I've had to take her to the vets twice this year already, once for bite marks on her upper front arms and once cause she ate something she shouldnt have outside. Love all of my babies, and you're right, I am like an over protective parent sometimes.
One reason I freak out over things that happen to speedy or Fancy is because I've never dealt with any type of bird other than when it went into my mouth. I was 100% part cat kinda cat person... they just seem so much more fragile than my cats ever were... even big teddy bear like fancy.

I might have done to much research on how to take care of Speedy cause I read about all the bad things that could happen and im not sure how I'd handle it should anything happen to either of them because of something I should have know about but didn't because I didn't do enough. ---

oh, I know...

*hugs* you shoulda seen me get upset at Lowe's manager cause I couldn't get my shutoff valves for bathroom sink to work and no one in their plumbing dept would help me figure out what I was doing wrong. I was ready to cry cause I couldn't turn main water line on to get them fresh water and couldn't get any help. He got someone to help me though, and i got it fixed and working right.

May I see the diagram? And how big/sharp of scissors, I know them... im gonna have to be quick and fast about it. Just like with the diapers, im getting better at it.
