Hi. I rescued a newly hatched Muscovy ducking from an Enterprise parking lot in Tampa a few weeks ago. Knowing nothing about ducks except the neighborhood has a lot of them, i had no idea what to do with it or how to help it. I couldnt find its mom or family. So, I brought it home and put it in a box with a heat lamp, in the garage and started googling.
Almost 3 weeks later, "Pecker" is thriving. He/she, is growing fast and has the best little personality. He (as we refer to it) is incredibly curious and quite a bit spoiled. He doesn't like his box unless hes really tired and prefers to be held. He pecks everything and poops everywhere but we do love him.
Unfortunately, he cannot remain here much longer. We also have two Golden Doodles who have repeatedly killed any animal, other than dogs, that get in our yard. This includes a kitten, opossum and squirrels, etc. I have no doubt they will eat this duck at any age... Even if he were full grown. We have had close calls while letting Pecker run in the yard, when someone let the dogs outside. I cannot build a pen for him and he cannot remain locked in the garage for much longer.
I really need help finding this sweet baby a new home where he can continue to thrive and grown old. The Muscovy Sanctuary cannot take new ducks until they relocate and I dont know who else to call. To be honest, I dont know how he will do around other ducks because he has never seen another duck.
I just want the best for Pecker. He is so smart and loving and curious and funny. I hate letting him go but there are no other options. If anyone can help, please contact me asap. Thank you and sorry for the book. I just want it to be clear how much we care for him.
