Rescuing dogs from swap meets

I think it's deplorable how often people breed their dogs. The biggest culprits are the purebred breeders in my area, 5-6-7-8 litters a year!... We breed once a year, depending. One year we skipped the year entirely.

if you think its so deplorable to breed then you shouldnt be doing it either...at all..just saying...

I don't think it's deplorable to breed, I think it's deplorable to breed as often as many breeders do. To flood the market so that you have no home for your puppies to go to.

still sounds like a double standard to me..its ok for me to breed but not anyone else..

That's not at all what I said, what I said is that there is breeding and then there is over breeding which often results in puppies without homes.

How about we stop breeding chickens? ... Theres lots of unwanted chickens in the world, or horses, cows, goats... Really, all I said was there is a big difference between breeding and over breeding.

About the original question..... You do need to check the laws in your area. If you buy dogs (or get dogs) then resell for more than simply the exact cost of vet care, you must be a licensed dealer (like a pet store) in some states. You also have to have a business license and tax number. People who own the parent dogs fall into a different category (breeders), so they don't need a dealer's license unless they have over a certain amount of breeding females.

You really need to be careful about broadcasting what you are doing. It really is illegal in some areas. I know your intentions are good, but it can bring you problems if you don't have the correct license.

I've always said that if those who have the cute puppies or cute kittens were made to volunteer in a 'kill' shelter then they might think twice about 'allowing' the unwanted litters to happen.
Spaying/neutering is such a small cost compared to that of supplying feed, vet care etc to litters. I'm not saying everyone is like that, just those who are careless in allowing the 'oops' to happen and often.

I totally agree with both of these comments. I volunteered at the Humane society in a large city with a friend when I was 16. Our job was to bathe and groom the scruffy looking adoptables. One room we would cut through, the "Green Room", was where the overflow was put to sleep. We would see cages upon cages of puppies and kittens waiting for "their turn" to get their little shot...sometimes we'd see the aftermath - piles of dead animals on the floor...
EVERYONE who breeds unpapered, uncertified puppies (and allows their cats to breed randomly) should get a special tour of these facilities, before and after the euthanasia takes place!
