<RESOLVED>Worm...2 week old chick...HELP PLEASE!

It sounds like flea larva.
Was it kind of grey in color?

Not grey at all...it was about 1/4" long...yellow to peach in color...and had these segmented looking lines that were darker in color...like a rust color...it barely moved anywhere, but was wiggling...did not inch like the tapeworm (or an inch worm)...

Well thats true...but this was even smaller...not even half a dime length...and didnt quite look like that...however with looking through the link posted above maybe it is cecal...it was in cecal poo...i have no idea!

Sounds about the size of mine. We have had chickens for years but this was the first visible worm issue so I had to depend on more knowledgeable people than myself. I had no clue, sadly! But it took care of the problem. I lost one just a few days before that, though, my first loss of a young chick, was heartbroken, and was treating with corid, but realized I was dealing with more when I found the worm.

Well I've sent messages to both Dawg53 and Kathy...I hope that they can point me in the right direction because this chick belongs to my son...he's already VERY attached, she sleeps in a crate in his room at night...we have 3 other chickens that we got about 3 weeks ago (9 weeks and 5.5 weeks) from the same lady...this is so hard on a newbie! I thought I did all the research before getting any chicks, but I guess I was WRONG!! I guess now I'm just waiting to hear back from those two...thanks SO much for all your help!

We have had chicks for years, but this was the first time I saw a visible worm so I needed help from the more experienced members badly!

So right now I'm starting all the chicks on the garlic treatment/preventive...mainly because I'm afraid they are too young to tolerate a lot of stuff...if I get different advice from an expert I will of course follow that...I will be starting the worming preventive soon (with actual dewormer)...I think I've read that is best done every 3 months or so...is that what you do now @farm-a-zootical

Yes, it is. And, when you hear from one of the experts, you will get the right information. They will tell you what to get, where to get it and how much to administer. I was lucky and had bought the safeguard for my first aid kit and had it handy, so I grabbed it, said 'open wide' and got it started immediately! We are in the middle of a dry spell, but at the time was in a very wet season. The soil and sand could NOT dry out, and that is an open invitation to worms.

Thanks! I've been messaging Kathy back and forth...she is helping...Dawg hasn't been online lately...so I'll definitely start this soon...just not sure when I can start since all my chicks are about 2 months or younger...Is the safeguard expensive?

Not really. I got a tube of the paste and it was definitely affordable, and was on sale to boot. I squeezed a pea size amount on my index finger and just put it in their mouth. We were very short on time with a family emergency, so we tag teamed it. I pulled down on the wattles and placed it in. We actually had no issue at all doing it that way. Easy-Peasy.
