Found one of my girls today with a swollen eye and plugged nostril. Brought her in, removed blockage (see pic below) and she now in our “chicken hospital” (aka a tote with a chicken wire lid). The swollen eye is on the opposite side as the plugged nostril. We have not had any new additions to the flock.

Haven’t heard sneezing or coughing and her eye is not “bubbly” as noted in many of the respiratory posts. Trying to figure out what this is and what I could use to treat (saw posts about Tiaguard and Tylosin if treating for respiratory)…I don’t have access to a chicken vet so I would need to be able to pick this up at a Tractor Supply or get from Amazon.

She is “pooping” clear liquid…but there’s also a bit of a heatwave here so may not be related.

Hi,

If you have a humidifier or vaporizer, I'd put that near her.

You could put a warm compress on her eye, then rinse it with a saline solution to see if you can see anything wrong. She could have Terramycin or triple antibiotic ointment (without painkiller) in her eye. I see crusties below her eye. Do you think she was tearing (crying) from that? Otherwise, check her over well for mites too.

If you have some Poultry Cell, Nutri-Drench, or other poultry vitamins for their water, I'd do that every other day. A boost will help her fight this.

If you want to treat her with an antibiotic, most of us get them online at one of these places:
