Respiratory Issues - Antibiotics or Antibacterial

See at the far corner of his eye? His white eyelid is showing, it normally does not do that. Both him and the hen are showing that. It is not "gunky" or anything, just showing when it normally does not.

So this is not typical respiratory illness symptoms?

Yes, I'm out in the country too -- just outside Sulphur Springs. We have a farm, and my husband last night mixed in some sulfa drug (on hand for our cattle) in their water. We are going to keep them 'locked down' for the next day or two in their run so they drink their medicine. At least, that's the plan until we come up with something better. My thread was "infectious coryza/infectious bronchitis". No replies yet, probably too long a novel to read (lol). If we can laugh while our chickies are sick. It's supposed to be a nice few days weather-wise coming up; maybe it will help us weather this storm better. Let's keep in touch.
Hey! I'm just seeing this 11 months late (I"m looking for info on my wheezing). Anyway... Sulphur Springs, AL? I live in Dade County- on Sand mountain. Pam

Hello,

I just stumbled on this thread, and I'm not sure if it was resolved yet...but here's some info.

Just the other day I had a hen wheezing for the whole afternoon and I freaked out and tried to figure out if she had something stuck in her windpipe or crop or something, but I believe it was up in her head, sinuses and stuff. Her name is Lucy and she finally stopped wheezing the next day!

So we have a vet who prescribed us Sulmet its an antibiotic and basically it takes care of all respiratory dilema's and all you do is put it in their drinking water for a few days and it's suppose to clear their sinuses. I just started them on it yesterday and it seems to be working pretty well!!
We can't eat the eggs for at least 10 days after the antibiotic was started tho...so just a tip.

Hope this was helpful,

Good luck!
