My husband is out of town at a conference. I had a shoulder procedure this morning. So, obviously, now is the first time for a non chick chicken emergency (I've experienced minor new chick things, but nothing in the older flock yet).

My 17 week old cockerel is wheezing when he crows. He's quarantined. Saturday night we did vetRX and vitamins for everyone. My vet got us water soluble Tylan just for him for 5 days starting Sunday. She also had me dose all 55 chooks, waterfowl, and turkeys with ivermectin in case of gapeworm. But now I'm reading that might not do it? She didn't get a fecal. Will they need another dose? Something else?

No one else is symptomatic so far. I'm not sure if I should be doing anything else? We can't do coop cleanouts until the weekend, and I'm not sure what else to do.

Gapeworm is pretty unlikely especially in the winter. Chickens pick up gapeworm through infected earthworms and slugs (which I'm guessing they are not getting a lot of right now) or directly through an infected bird's feces. You would also see him gape and gasp throughout the day. If you can take a video and post it of him crowing and wheezing someone might have an idea of what's going on, but if that is his only symptom I wouldn't panic.

I would follow the Vet's instructions.

How much ventilation is in your coop?

Has the cockerel improved with the Tylosin treatment or since you moved him?
