Respiratory Problem

FWIW, the reason I said I wold be more suspicious of mycoplasma is based on something I read on BYC and that was someone who talked to a lab and they said that they didn't see too many cases of coryza. Another thing I read was that coryza has an odor, which I don't think you mentioned. I'm not an expert and have zero experience treating my own for respiratory problems, so please do your research and if possible, have some blood sent off to a lab for testing.

I have read up on what I could find on both Coryza and mycoplasma, they both seem very much alike in symptoms and treatment. I honestly can not determine which it might be, DW said that there was an odor when she was cleaning the eyes and nostrils, I did not notice it being that bad. I think that I will need to find a lab to send a blood sample from a recovered bird.

The bird I was concerned about that started this thread did not develop the swelling,discharge, or matting of the eyes and seems fine now. I don't know, I am just sick over this whole thing.

Have more than one bird test , and do test the one that is on the mend or one that is coming down with this ailment.

I talked to our vet this morning and she didn't think that a blood test would give us the answers we need. Instead she wants to swab the mucus/cottage cheese from the throat the next time one comes down with the ailment. She said that we could either bring in the bird or she could give us the swabs, then they would send the swabs to a lab that would take five to seven days to get the results back.

I asked if there might be something else that it could be, possibly, and she named something bacterial, but she thought from what I told her that either Coryza or mycoplasma would be the most likely.

After adding up the investment so far it is not soon enough. Buildings, pens, birds, brooders, incubators... Just added a new GQF 1502 and loaded it with a bunch of guineas, duck, and pea eggs. I can't keep them all.
