I don't have the $$ to buy new CDs to hang around, and I don't have any old ones. I cheat. I have LOTS of disposable pie pans in various sizes, from pot pies and frozen pies. They are shiny and work just as well as CDs. If you have a few close together (like a mobile) they make a very annoying noise, but it keeps the wild birds away from my chickens. I have problems with starlings, sparrows and other wild birds. And hawks and owls. So far, haven't lost of my girls to the raptors...

I'm so sorry for your loss! Unexpected losses like that are the worst and saddest... I lost two of my favorite hens unexpectedly this summer to heat stroke, and I'm still devastated.

I hope your girl rests in peace... Try not to blame yourself for her death and remind yourself it was just an accident. I'm sure she had a happy life with you.

Thank you all soo much. Yes, she was a VERY happy bird. She fulfilled her life with great babies and she just loved them.

The day I left for town, she was dust bathing with her kids under the nursery. We will really miss her. She was a very special spirit.
