Restarting my chicken flock and thinking of raising a few guinea fowl with it...

So, this year, we are restarting our chicken flock with Buckeyes and Dominiques after a 17+ year hiatus; we are getting day-old chicks. We live in an area notorious for ticks, so I was thinking of adding a couple of guinea fowl to the mix and raising them with the chicks...am I crazy? I read already that guinea fowl have been known to harass chickens, but I'm hoping they won't do that as much if I raise them all together from chicks.

Thoughts? Considerations? TIA!

Hi Razorbackgirl,

I've had chickens and guineas together for years, often raising the babies together. Most of the time they get along fine with each other. But guineas are a little different than chickens. They will range far and wide looking for those ticks. The females can also be noisy at times. So do some research on them and make sure they are suitable for where you live. Such as will they bother neighbors or get out on the roads. They make a wonderful addition to a flock of poultry. Good luck!

Thanks!

I am just going to go with chickens, I think. I do live in a rural area, but I have neighbors, and I don't want to annoy them.
