Restaurant refuses to serve pregnant woman glass of wine...Thoughts?

I am the adoptive parent of three (probably four) children with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome so you can imagine that I have some pretty strong feelings about drinking at ALL let alone while pregnant. We don't allow the stuff in our home at all simply because we know that we have children who will one day have addictive personalities. BUT I still believe and will always believe that it's a woman's right and ONLY her right to decide what she does with her own body. There are WAY too many doctors out there TELLING women that it's okay to have a drink every night so long as it's just one small one and while I disagree with that opinion vehemently who is this restaurant to decide arbitrarily that they are better suited to determine what this woman can and can't have. Why do they have better judgment than the woman or her doctor? Grrrrrrr, this sort of thing makes me angry.

I was thinking the same thing. Plus restaurants usually have the right to refuse any type of service to anyone they want except for things like race and religion.

When I first read the title, I thought good for them! ( the restaurant) But then I really thought about it for a minute or two and I think the restaurant does NOT have the right to refuse her. When I first got pregnant, I quit smoking and was cutting back my caffiene intake trying to do everything right. Then I miscarried at 7 weeks. Life went back to normal. Smoking and several caffienated drinks aday. A few months later, I was pregnant again. I carried on with life as normal and will probably get some harsh comments for publicly announcing that I did this but yes, I smoked all through my pregnancy. She came 8 days early weighing 8.5 lbs and is a perfectly healthy 4 yo. Long story short, those who live in glass houses should not cast stones

It's fine for a pregnant woman to have 1 glass of wine, every now and then. this is allowed by any doctor... we just had a baby boy and the the doctor told us, if my wife wanted to she could enjoy 1 glass of wine once and a while.. i can't remember how often but i think it was once a week..

A Restaurant has the right to refuse service to anyone period. That person in turn has the right to sue said restaurant for discrimination or whatever.

what a stupid woman anyhow.

like someone said, that woman coulda sued that restaurant if her baby came out with FAS. alot of peoples lives rely on their jobs at this restaurant and i wouldnt risk it either.

eta: how can the woman be surprised by this? If i had decided to drink through pregnancy id probobly expect this to happen more often than not.

I have raised an adopted child that had fetal alcohol syndrome and the mother swears she didn't drink a drop during pregnancy. Well I have studied psychology and I know enough that what people do in the eyes of the public is only 10% of what they actually do. So I say for this woman to ask for a drink in public, she has no qualms throwing back a few more! Just cause she is not smart enough to realized that 1 drink can cause birth defects does not excuse her from being responsible. What ever part of the unborn child is developing at the moment of consumption is going to retard the growth of that developing part. I would not have served her either!!

Anyone can have children but you have to have a license to drive a car.

I know what happens to the FAS babies and it sucks. I don't care if anyone does not agree with my statements. I have seen it and studied it and know it to be true!

If they are going to refuse her one glass of wine I hope they refuse her pop too. Then it becomes a slippery slope on what will be allowed or not.
I see nothing wrong with one glass of wine now and then but I do see something wrong with unlimited pop.

They would have a hard time proving discrimination. All the place has to say is she is welcome to come in without a child an drink. There not refusing to serve anyone of age for any reason. There refusing to serve someone that is under age.
