Shouldn’t the neighbour pay for the repair of your fence?
In my country the owner of a tree is responsible for damage that comes from it.

I would have thought so. I guess it comes down to how well you get on with your neighbour.

If the costs to repair are quite high, our insurance would handle it. They ask a repair company to estimate a price and claims the cost from the neighbour (in case of neglect).
I can choose wether I let the repair company fix the damage, or get paid and fix it myself. It has no influence if the neighbour doesn’t want to pay. The insurance repairs/ pays anyway.

Next door is a rental so not my neighbour's responsibility & the owner refuses point blank to spend any money on the property. Besides the fences in question are only chicken wire & easily fixed with some zip ties.

It is not my place to tell anyone how to manage their chickens and I'm not doing so now. I know you want to become self-contained but until then you should at least consider how you can quarantine in the future.

You are right of course but I had a very small window of opportunity & I knew he'd be a great rooster - & he is! I preferred to take a risk with Henry, where I knew the owner & her birds, than wait & risk a bird only fit for the soup pot. As I said, he is related to more than 1/2 the flock. They already knew him & he knew them. I really didn't think there was much risk.

Of course that is your decision to make. You thought about the risks and made an educated decision to accept the small risk. Nothing wrong with that. We all do that every day with our chickens. At least you thought about it. That is good. Most people never consider it.

Clearly it is working out fine and I'm glad.
