Hey guys! My mom got a Facebook message asking if one of our chickens were loose, because there was a lone hen in a tree (it had just started getting dark) It wasn't one of ours but we knew nobody else had chickens in the area so she was far from home, shes terrified out of her mind and probably traumatized as I had to slowly creep up on her to catch her, her tail feathers were all messed up and it looks like she has fowl pox on her comb. I'm taking off from school tomorrow to stay and care for her, but what can I do to get her comfortable and start feeling safe?

Dark and quiet will help, like a laundry room.
That may be a cockerel.
Please do not put it anywhere near your birds for atleast a month to make sure it's not carrying a disease. rake care of your birds first and then that chicken
2x this. ⬆️

I also wanted to add, if you're already seeing signs of fowl pox, you'll want to treat it. Keep it as far away from your flock as possible until it's cured on that and is proven that it doesn't have anything else. You'll also want to check it over for mites and lice, as well as scaly leg mites.

A few doses of NutriDrench is helpful. Keeping this chicken in a dark quiet spot is great advice as well. Isolate the chicken from your flock for at least a month. I also give my new flock members a dose of Fenbendazole just in case they have worms. Watch for lice/mites and treat accordingly (I like Elector PSP, even though it's pricey. See if someone will sell you a single dose). You can also treat for mites/lice with Frontline....2 drops on the back of the neck and two drops on the butt below the vent. Thank you for taking in this chicken!!!

If you cannot get the chicken to swallow anything, you're going to need to syringe it down into the crop. Slide the syringe down the throat and to the right and you will hit the crop. Chicken keeping is not for the squeamish, that's for sure!!Good luck!!
