be prepared to laugh your tail feathers off......

Any one besides me think they are so ugly they are kinda cute?

First Hatch:
Very funny post. Way to have a sense of humor about it!!! I agree that this one looks like a miniature Ostrich. Maybe you could market him as such and fetch a good price???

Thanks for the warning about the local auction. I always wondering how people know what they are getting there. Question answered: They don't!

Maybe you need some better marketing. Naked neck silkies are Showgirls, that could bring in a different type of buyer

. Dipsy Doodle Doo on here has bred some funky things with dark skinned birds (and naked necks, she called them her Build-A-Buzzard project

) anyway she calls her dark skinned birds Goth....that could also open up a new market. I mean, goth chicks should want a Goth chick, right?

Mini ostrich hahaha your right there is a bit of a resemblance! I will admit they are kinda cute but my hubby is really creaped out by them!

And YES its a mystery we never know for sure what something is and we cant exactly ask "what the heck were you thinking?" to the buyer because its basically anonymous. I did attempt 2 dozen RIRs but the eggs looked scrambled and were completely sloshy when candled and ended up with zero chicks. **GRRRRR!!!** and 2 dozen BAs and hatched 9 but 2 died that probably shouldn't have. They tried to hatch overnight and got stuck when my humidity dropped because stupid me left one of the plugs open in the top of my incubator. THOSE little guys are stinkin cute let me tell you. Little balls of black fluff exactly like they should be.

I think the auction house is a good place to get eating eggs (usually) but for hatching eggs I seem to be seeing a 50% fertility rate (or less), mishandled eggs and clearly eggs being sold as 'fresh fertile eggs' when clearly they aren't. I wouldn't mind it all THAT much with the prices that I'm paying $3 or there abouts for 2 dozen but the ones that did hatch ooooh lord. Never gonna find anyone who will buy them which means I will be selling teeeeeeeeny sarama sized eggs for eating since I refuse to keep enough boys for fertile eggs. And the boys... well they will be heading for the auction if I cant find buyers cause they are so goofy looking to begin with but I really don't want a dozen motley pint sized roos with attitude.

Different angle of the little ostrich ;) Fluffy little grey bugger LOL

Love the Barnyard 500. Or it could be the Big Top 500. You could charge admission to see your little circus act chickens. Are any of them bigger sized or all they all going to be small?

Once our roo is old enough to do his job I can give you some eggs to incubate. They would all be olive egger or easter egger babies - nothing mysterious.

LOL they will tiny as you can tell. They are "silkie-turkin-frizzle-sarama-god-only-knows-what-all's" however I do like the suggestion of the name Build-A-Buzzard hahahaha the black ones really do look it too!

Im going to try craigslist. Otherwise they go to the auction and get me an astonishing .75 a bird (if I'm really really lucky lucky and a buyer fans themselves with their number at the wrong time!).

I uploaded about a skizillion pics today. Had fun trying to get my camera to catch fast moving birds. Let me know if this link works: https://www.backyardchickens.com/g/a/6773144/buckley-flock/

I picked up a couple of tabletop incubators and decided to try my hand at hatching some mystery eggs from the auction house. They were sold as "Silkies X Sarama eggs" Naturally one thinks "ok that might be a cool mix and tiny" ummmm... they failed to mention they were also frizzle AND turken mixed as well. OOOH my lord. The first egg hatched out and it was a grey silkie turken. Face palm. Next one: Black silkie turken. Then a white silkie... turken (with very dark skin!) and then came the frizzles... and the turken frizzles. And and .. and... Good lord help me. I hatched mutants!!

Anyone want some really REALLLY tiny freakish looking babies?!

Figured this COULDNT POSSIBLY happen twice. Right?? so I bought another 2 dozen eggs. Hatch day arrives... oooh crud. Same weird combo. Of all the hatching eggs available for sale I probably bought from the same seller again.

Third try's the charm right??? Isnt that what everyone says? So I buy 6 dozen eggs and finally hatch day comes. I ended up with 9 black astralorps (look pretty much as advertised) and then... TURKENS AGAIN!!! The one breed my husband said no to. Now I have dozens. Oops Sorry honey! He really is creeped out by them. The real problem... my buyers look at them and cringe too.

Any one besides me think they are so ugly they are kinda cute?

Probably pretty inbred too. ;)

Husband has banned me from auction eggs cause he says they will die of old age before I manage to sell any of them....
