~ Retired and Starting My Future In The Foothills ~

Sorry about your ducklings.

Here is to hoping you can get everything moved into the house before rain and get out of your rental so things go back to normal.

Made another trip to the rental yesterday, and what I couldn't take I moved into the shed I built (which I will eventually disassemble and take, too). Except for the backyard stuff (coops and yard art and picnic table, yadda yadda).

Crashed today. Too tired and sore to go to work. (Another Fibro day, luckily these tend to ease up in the late afternoon, as my meds kick in and take hold. I sure needed the sleep.)

So much so that I managed to drag the day-bed frame into the house. However, it won't fit through the bedroom door without being disassembled, and I don't think I have unpacked - or even located! - the doo-hickies to remove those capped bolt things holding it together. Fine. I can walk around it in the living room for a lot longer than I would want to, but at least it's in the house.

I have hired the next door kids to help me move furniture into the house tonight, whatever they can handle. I asked their mom if that was okay, yesterday, just as they were heading to church. She thought it was a great way for them to earn some money they don't have to keep asking for from their dad.

After one gets out of soccer practice today, and the other gets home from... I forget which extramural activity she said... they'll be over around 6 p.m. to earn some cash.

What I started to do this afternoon was move the boxes stacked inside to we can work around them. But that day-bed frame just called to me. Several chickens "assisted" all along the way as I dragged it to the house, up the steps, onto the patio, through the French doors, and through the utility room, kitchen and into the living room. Darn chickens took advantage of the open double doors to wander into the house as I struggled with the bed frame.

Wish I had a Head-Cam to take pictures of what I saw throughout that process! The feathered assistance included, Carl (EE and Flock Boss), Molly (BA), Paprika (EE cross), Charlie (buff Brahma and Carl's second Lieutenant), Hitchcock (Bantam Fav), Greta (very senior BSL), Amy and Amelia (Salmon Favs). The dogs were very worried about the activity and doubly so when Carl, Greta and Molly checked out the utility room and some of the kitchen before I chased them back outdoors. Molly was the most annoyed about being denied further investigatory meandering.

The Cayuga ducklings know I'm the Food Lady!!! It's such a thrill to have them come waddling towards me. Kate isn't exactly "mothering" them, but she's protecting them from the chickens and adult ducks, although nobody has tried to peck them when I'm present. Matter of fact, the ducklings have started warding off chickens when they rush 'em. Kate talks to the ducklings with a low gabble sounding like a combination of encouragement and indignation. I wish I spoke Geese, or understood it better.

It sounds like you are making good progress and hiring teenagers to help is a good idea!

Thanks for the update and be sure to take care of yourself!

Hopefully, your life will settle down soon.

I love your updates, Linda, and look forward to them every day. Even though I have my own little piece of heaven, I really enjoy reading about yours!! Thanks so much for taking the time to share with us

Hey Linda! How you feeling today? Hope today is a better day for you

Did you get the furniture in before the rain? Moving always seems to take so much longer than you plan.

Thank you - I am much better today. The teenagers from next door moved two tall bookcases and the bottom section of a HUGE hutch in which I display my hens-on-nest dish collection, but everything else is too heavy and/or there was no room cleared to get the items I to the house yet. But the sofa and bed are covered with tarps. I am anxious about it all....

I want to share what happened this morning, and those of y'all who think I'm nuts can just go on thinking that if you wish.

Ever since I moved in, I have sensed an interested and friendly personality to the property. One day I discovered a face in the trunk of one cedar, a contemplative masculine face. Sort of like The Green Man was watching with approval. There is a collection of five cedars at the bottom of the driveway which have all grown together at the base of their trunks, and these I know are The Five Sisters. There is a magical place with a grove of tiny, tiny cedarlings growing around a large, rounded rock, where it's easy to imagine fairies gathering.

A couple of months ago, I <*almost*> saw a woman's figure in the house. Again, non-threatening, almost just passing through whilst checking things (and me) out.

I have DirecTv in the living room and both bedrooms; the second bedroom is my "office" and Incubator Room, where my computer is set up, as well.

Every work day, I struggle to get up at five a.m. And get on the road by six a.m. at the latest. This morning, one minute before my often-ignored alarm went off, I was awakened by the 47 inch flat panel TV set suddenly showing the morning news. This so startled me i rolled over and picked up the remote on my night-stand to turn OFF the bedroom TV, only to turn it on and now the news was in stereo.

Even if the TV set came on all by itself, it does need the DirecTv box to be on, too, to show anything but the LG logo like a screensaver. The living room remote was up high out of dog or cat reach (and they were all in bed with me, anyway).

I think I have a ghost that wanted me to get to work on time, or at least get going without rushing around the house getting ready and departing without having a cup of coffee first.

I always get coffee at the Plymouth Trading Post on my way down the hill, either as a refill, or as the first cup because I'm usually behind schedule. But that's sixteen miles down the road... This morning I even drove at the speed limit!
