Really?!? I was figuring they were game mixes. There is a gorgeous Buff Orpington rooster which lives further down the same street and I know the hens have been visiting him - I've seen some in that yard now and again. (He's obviously gorgeous to some of those chicken gals, as well!)

But because they're all kinda lean, I figured their origins were game and/or leghorn types. I think that one rooster with the gold hackle feathers is really an attractive rooster. He warms my heart that he is also a good, gentleman roo.

I have more updates for the thread but I'm slightly nervous about posting 'em.

John - my contractor - asked about the forum and wrote down both the URL and my username. <*ahem*>

Those are really old Cedars. The one directly behind the picnic table is probably more than 100 years old. It's larger around than the 103 year old Ponderosa Pine I had to have taken down earlier this year.

I have LOTS of cedar and Ponderosa pine trees, one very sad peach tree, one Gravenstein apple tree, and a couple of bush things on the property.

I just noticed the ear lobes. Icelandics have white earlobes, and those have red.

Well, they sure are pretty birds!

Okay, here goes.

I learned this today, and still have to get the WHOLE story from my real estate broker, but John said I am now known in the area as a Real Rebel (remember, people who move up to the mountains are considered "rebels") because I am the Winner of The Great Chicken War.

Apparently the complainant actually called the local news station to complain that my broker's family has too much influence in the county, they exerted pressure on the Code Enforcement section and I received a variance for my chickens. (The three major TV stations all have "Let us help you with injustices" segments.) He called the largest network, the NBC affiliate. The station investigated and - it seems - contacted the actual attorney who acted as the Hearing Officer. He set them straight. So the station folks called the complainant back and told him to get his story straight.
