~ Retired and Starting My Future In The Foothills ~

Thanks for the review, Linda. I love my 210,000 mi CR-V, but newer ones seem a bit more expensive than the Rav-4, and don't get quite as good mileage in the 2006 model that I'm looking at (translation; any newer and I flat can't afford it!). Loved my 93 4-Runner and miss it, so will probably love the Rav-4, I'm sure. Just wondered if there was anything that really bugged you about it, which there doesn't seem to be. Back seats will be down 99% of the time due to hauling my dogs back and forth to work (and buying feed and shavings, etc). I'll have to make a mental note to tray and get an 'L' series for better toonage. Just gotta save a down payment and pick a color!

Kansaseq,
Don't want to hijack Linda's homestead thread, but if you are looking used, you might consider the Honda Element (not making them new any more, '11 was the last year). I LOVE my '04 - and in addition to raising/lowering the rear seats individually, you can remove them easily if you wish. Plus NO carpet gathering dog hair and such. Don't know if you have children; if you do, the "suicide" doors might be challenging, but really that is the only downside I can think of.

Linda, congrats on the retirement. Just beware, Hubby and I work harder now on the farm than we ever did when we were "working" in the city!! Enjoy life and especially all your furred and feathered friends.

Oh, man, Linda! The countdown is on! Hard to believe it's just about here. I can't wait to see your sketches and watercolors, if you decide to share them here on your blog thread. Your plans for retirement sound WONDERFUL to me. Pretty much exactly what I'd like to do myself, when the time comes.

(Thanks, Chuckles, for the info on the Honda Element. I'll take a look at them online.)

Not much longer now! :D Tomorrow won't really count anyway since it will just be everyone saying goodbye and you'll have to make yourself look like you're trying to get some work done, all the while your mind will be miles away, lol! I hope it's a great day for you and remember to savor that last drive home from work. Immerse yourself in the wonderful knowledge that this will be the last time you HAVE to make that drive :)...... Nuttin like it! Very happy for you Linda :). But I gotta warn ya, I am WAY busier now than when I worked full time 55 miles away. You'll just wonder where the heck the time goes!

Wishing you well on your last day at work. Personnally, I hate saying good bye, it's really hard for me, but I know it's really important. These are people you have spent lots of time with. Do you have a plan? Donuts for the staff room with a card? Flowers? Hugs? I know this is my issue, and probably someone who has solved so many difficult problems as you over the time of your thread probably doesn't have any trouble with goodbyes. But, just in case you do, having a plan helps. And then the big reward, the rest of your life without having to work around those pesky work hours and long drive! Doing what you want to do! I'll be thinking of you tomorrow.
