Hello BYC!!!

I haven't been on here for a minute, so wanted to say hi!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I happily gained my title of "Chickeness" in 2009, and started sharing my knowledge and experiences with the Greater Boston area shortly thereafter through my biz Yardbirds Backyard Chickens. :)

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Currently have 7 in my home flock.

(3) What breeds do you have?
Wheaten Ameraucana (1 - "Wheatie" the singer),
Easter eggers (2 - "Faile" the smart one and "Peepers" the really not smart one),
Barred Plymouth Rock (1 - "Tweedledee" the Mom (her sister Tweedledah lives with a client))
Cuckoo Marans (1 - "Dizzy" aka "Hei Hei" the sneaky one)
Splash bantam cochin (1 - "Mist" the shy one)
Nankin-esque unknown rescue (1 - "Ramona" the boss)

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
What *aren't* my favorite parts of having backyard chickens?!! LOL. But srsly I really love having these awesome little dinosaurs in my life. Their personalities are hilarious, they help with the yardwork, they make fantastic pets, and when set up well I find them easier to maintain than nearly any other pet I've ever owned (which has been nearly every kind of critter you can think of).

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
There are "other" hobbies?! Just kidding... Keeping aquarium fish/plants, birding, gardening, making yarn baskets, playing music, hiking

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Family/pets
- hubby Jamie, two mini rex rabbits Rorschach and Magellan, the flock, two aquariums (one tropical and one for a fancy black moor goldfish we named Pantera). You can follow the buns on Instagram @TheAdventuresofRoryandMadge and the flock (and my backyard chicken biz) @YardbirdsBackyardChickens
Occupation - Saving the planet. I work for a great environmental non-profit that helps businesses save energy and reduce waste. If your business would like free waste or energy assistance in MA, or food waste assistance anywhere in the country, let me know!

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D
When I first got started I did HOURS and HOURS of research, and this community was an unparalleled resource for information and community. I love you guys!!

I'm glad to be back, and I look forward to "meeting" more of you!

Here'a a question for y'all... what's everyone's latest favorite go-to spot for fertile egg sales? Is there still a sale thread/venue on this site? Doesn't look like many breeders are using ebay at the moment (mostly backyard mixes on there rn)... what about eggbid? TIA for suggestions!
You can check our our Advertising section for eggs here... https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/chicken-hatching-eggs.36/

Lots of good hatcheries out there. I am not sure if this place sells hatching eggs, but you won't find cleaner, healthier, more pure of poultry than at Sandhill Preservation... https://www.sandhillpreservation.com/poultry
