*I just found my original post from when I first joined and I was WAY of with my dates. I guess time really does fly!

I'm a returning member who actually started out with a couple of chickens about 26 yrs ago to use the egg whites to help feed our cat thr had kidney issues and discovered chicken math! I used to raise Whiting True Blue and Greens, Cream Legbars, White Araucanas, 55 feathery and a small group of Olive Eggers with Black & Cuckoo Marans chickens. In addition to our chickens we also had Welsh Harlequin, Golden Cascade and Muscovey ducks, Greater Dewlap Toulouse geese and two pair of Midget White turkeys.

My life has changed a great deal since then, and thanks to a recent weasel issue, now I'm currently down to just 5 chickens. Miss Copper and Jackie are both Dominant Coppers. While Judy, Jill and Lu are all Easter Eggers. I hope to add a couple more pullets/hens this summer if I can find any I like.

My favorite thing about raising my chickens, and other fowl, is getting to see the birds personalities develop as the grow up. Of course, then I enjoy spending extra time with the birds that want to share their life with me. I find it especially rewarding when I add a new hen to the flock and she eventually chooses to interact with me. It's a great feeling:).

I don't really have many hobbies. I spend most of my spare time reading, watching old westerns and movies on tv and just trying to keep up with things around the place. I do however compete in dog activities with my 2 yr old Black Russian Terrier, Karma. He currently competes in Confirmation, FastCat, Dash, Trick Dog and Weight Pulling events.

I grew up and lived most of my life in Oregon's Willamette Valley. I returned here about 27 years ago and bought an 11 acre property that used to be part of my great grandparents farm. Since then I've taught 4th/5th grade blended class, been a district Talented & Gifted Coordinator and taught judt 5th grade. I ran an equine (15 yrs) and feline rescue (still occasionally help place cats) out of my home. I currently have my dog Karma, who I already mentioned. Kimmie, a 12 yr old indoor only cat leftover from our rescue days. Drake, a 7 yr old, excellent mouser, who was brought to us as a feral rescue 3 years ago. Sweetie, a 14 yr old indoor/outdoor rescue who was one of 5 cats we took in when his owner passed. All the others were rehomed.
The last is Missy, a 19 month old feral cat who showed up in the fall at our barn. One day when she stood up after eating I realized she was pregnant! I trapped her the next day and put her in a small chicken pen. Two days later she had 3 kittens. All the kittens were taken away at 5 weeks, handled extensively, and found great homes. Mom and babies all have been fixed. Missy is still very feral and staying with us for the moment.
I have a 10 year old and 17 year old niece that live, with my sister Anna, about 10 mins away which I see often. I also have a 6 yr old and 12 yr old grand nephew who are from my sister, Lisa' oldest son, Adam. They live in Apple Valley, CA. I only get to see them every couple of years..

I believe it was about 25 years ago when I first saw BYC. I was just scrolling along looking for information related to a chicken question I had and suddenly their page was there. The more I lookef at the site the more impressed I was by all the information (not just in the articles, but in the comments as well). I finally decided to join because I had a question I wanted to ask.
