My husband came up with this and I thought it was brilliant!

We had these old things sitting in the shop collecting dust...please ignore the dust, they WILL be cleaned.
Anyway, what a great idea for old kitchen cabinets! I'm sure others could find these for free in a junk heap somewhere.

The door hinges are already there, handles already there and a ledge in front is already there because they are laying on their side.

Top notch idea! I'm gonna rip my kitchen cabinets out right now!

A great example of up-cycling! My approach is even simpler - i use large plastic basins on the shelves of my shed as nest boxes!

Here you go - just took it now. The hen on the left is laying - the one on the right is brooding 10 eggs and theres the hens favourite "nest" on the upper shelf (they queue up waiting to lay in that one!)

Wow, Those are pretty big boxes! Is that a bag over top of it? Do they need a covering for a nest box? Ours will have a covering with our system but I was wondering if it was necessary?

Theres a strip of wood under the cement bag (classy eh?) - i just put it over the brooding hen to give her a better sense of privacy.I don't think you would need to cover yours - they look dandy to me! All my chicken related things are, at best, cobbled together - the main reason is that we are living in our house temporarily while renovations are being done (we normally rent it out) so i did not want to do anything permanent.
