I'm going to be selling my eggs at my neighbors large veggie stand. Who reuses cartons? Do you put exp. date on them and your farm name? Do you use a sticky lable or how do you mark yours?
We have a catchy phrase and funny photos on a piece of paper that we cut out and put on the reused carton. We have at least 60 of them back in the chicken coop because everyone gives them to us. I just organized them and put them into piles. We put them on with glue or tape. We just have 'Great Eggs" not our farm name, although a lot of people use their farm name. I'll get some pix soon.
Fortunately for me I live in a small town and folks that buy any eggs from me already know they are fresh laid no more than 5 or 6 days ago and where they came from. BUT if you will be doing it like a business where strangers will be buying from you I'd suggest sticky labels. You can get them at Wal-Mart and just write an expiration date on them, and farm name as well if you like. People save cartons for me, I have TONS and use them to pack & ship, store, and hatch my eggs. If I were selling like that at a veggie stand that is what I'd do.

How do you figure out the expiration date for them? Im new to chickens and just have 2 layers right now, and 6 chicks (layers) so in the future I also may be selling them at a Farmers Market, but never thought of having to put an expiration date them. Thanks
K-Chick, check your local and state regulations. For instance here in SC I can reuse cartons if I am selling from my own property. If I sell from a market, I have to use a new carton with dates, source name, etc. on it. It varies quite a bit by location.

I actually just figure 2 weeks from lay. They will last longer than that, but most people would not be comfortable using them. MOST people don't know the store bought ones are probably that old when they hit the shelves...
I did call the Indiana Egg Board and she hesitated quite a bit because I only have 32 chickens, but she said I probably should be registered. It cost 30.00 a year than then .06 for every 30 doz you sell in a 13 week period.
She also said I can reuse cartons just label them and they say an exp. date is 30 days from laying.
