One of my 17 birds has lice. I have bathed, dusted, and sprayed Poultry Protector on all the birds since Sept. Is there a topical (such as kitten revolution) I can try on this bird? Or essential oil repellants? Spending $80 on bovine injectable is out of the question. Thanks in advance!

When I found feather mites on my chickens, I bought Permethrin to spray the coops/nest boxes, Sevin 5% to sprinkle in the bedding/nest boxes and Ivermectin (pour on)... I cleaned out the coops and washed everything down with the hose and then let it dry... Then I used a garden sprayer and mixed 15 ML of permethrin with a gallon of water and sprayed the coops (floors, walls and nest boxes!) with a fine mist.... Let that dry and then put down new bedding and sprinkled that with the Sevin... That evening, I used a syringe to put 1 cc on all adult birds, 1/2 cc for bantam and 1/4 cc for chicks... Place at the back of their neck just above the shoulders... Don't make the mistake I made.. Use a glass syringe or expect the plastic one to stop working and you will need to use another one..

I dosed all of them and then checked on them 3 days later and there was NOTHING on them... The good thing about the pour on is that it will not only take care of external parasites but will also rid the chickens of internal parasites if they have them... I spent around $45 for everything and have enough left to do it over again at LEAST 2 more times.... If you shop online, you can get the Ivermectin for a FRACTION of the cost!!

This is where I got mine... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HHOEIU/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details
and
the permethrin was ordered from here.. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00061MSRQ/ref=oh_o01_s00_i00_details

You
will go through the Sevin 5% more quickly because each time you clean the bedding and put fresh down, you will want to sprinkle it again...

It's been about 2 months and there is absolutely nothing crawling on them (or in the coop for that matter!) and they are steadily gaining weight!!!!

You are very welcome...

I would much rather give more information than not enough... I've learned so much from this site and like to pass that knowledge on when I can...

The pour on is only around $18 and don't have to worry about needles

You don't inject it.
You give it orally and it can be mixed with their water so you don't even have to handle the birds at all
