So I know what Rheas look like..

White and Grey..

and White rheas have the same black marking that Grey Rheas have...

But I had a baby born that is white with a Grey Rhea's Back coloring.. OUt of 21 babies.. he is the only one that looks like this.. Mutation? What do you all think?

That looks pied to me! Or maybe call it paradox if it's not a separate mutation? I wonder if the grey patch will stay!

Dont know if patch will stay.. I hope so.. if it does, I plan to use it in my breeding program... Ill have to wait a few months before I can tell if its a boy or girl... It be nice if I actually had a new variation appear of my ranch... These things have to start somewhere...

I have absolutely no idea, but I shall shadow this thread with interest.

Supreme Emu

I'll be following this also. It appears as if it has some genetics from both white and gray breeds. I would imagine that if it's not just a phase that it will "outgrow," you could use it in a breeding program to make a crossbreed. I think that the placement of the pattern is very interesting as well, almost perfect.

Don't have a clue but it's cool! I really want to add rheas to my flock but can't seem to find and babies or eggs!
