Hi all, more sad news from S.A's rhinos: I read in yesterday's paper poachers killed a female rhino who was due to give birth in just 3 weeks. The published a picture of the calf.... WTH is wrong with people?
Some kind people have now volunteered to sleep out in the veld with the rhinos and keep an eye on them all the time. Hope they catch those poachers soon.

If I recall, poaching is a capital crime. You'd think a shrewd business man would have come up with a whole new season. Poacher hunting. Bigger payouts if they are still alive, when you bring them in, to the authorities. You think a couple of young guys with AK-47s would want to risk getting "caught" by some long range hunters, with elephant guns, who've been waiting a week to shoot something?

I'd think the Poacher hunters would not be sportsmen. No catch-and-release for you.

Poaching makes me angry, because people confuse poaching with hunting. And the penalty for poaching is not terribly strong, IRL. On paper, it's serious. IRL, you shoot the last living [fill in the blank] and you still go home to your family.

Now if the poachers shot the rhinos and took their horns along with all the meat (to sustain their families), the hides, the organs, etc., I would feel VERY different about it.
