Hi;
Need some guidance. I have a 2 year old Rhode Island Red hen that has become sick. She is displaying typical illness signs.. puffed up, doesn't eat, has yellow discharge in vent.

Weather has been very wet and cold lately. Wondering if its a cold.

Any help as to the cause and cure is appreciated.

Good news, upon further inspection, the yellow stuff was a broken egg. But still, she is very lethargic.
Something is not right with her.

I don't know what you do for it, but I do know that an egg breaking in them CAN kill them. I'd do my best to clean it all out with out hurting her. Someone else know more than me, I'm sure.

This is one thing that I haven't had happen... Sorry I can't offer any help, but if you use the search feature I'm positive you will find something.

Keep us posted! I'd keep her warm and in a dark area for now.

My Rhode Island RED was sick for 2-3 days. She seems fine now, yet doesn't appear to be laying.
After the yellow discharge, not eating and low energy,,, no eggs.
Thoughts?

Unfortunately it sounds like she has developed some egg laying difficulty. Here is a link on egg peritonitis, which it might be - see if her symptoms are anything like described in this thread. The egg yolk droppings fit. I don't have any experience with this, other than what I have read on here and elsewhere. Good luck to you with this.
