I have 4 Rhode Island red chicks. we don't know if they are male or female. They are 17-18 weeks old. So far we have nobody crowing so we are hoping they are little hens.

1. This is pip, s/he is very tame and will allow you to pick him/her up. s/he has always been slightly smaller than the others.

this is just another photo of pip.

2. this is pop. we think this one is definitely a hen.

3. this is belle/beast?

this is just a close up of belle/beast.

4. Finally we have nik. We think he might be cock as he can be aggressive and assertive. He has always been the most brave and the first to do anything.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Pop is definitely a hen, but I'm not sure about the others. Nik does more roosterish than the others, though, and so does belle/beast.

It's hard to tell, but #2 is definitely a pullet.

If you go simply by comb size, #2 is the only one that looks like a pullet.

My guesses:

1. Pullet
2. Pullet
3. Cockerel
4. Cockerel

You can see the similarities in tail shape with #1 and #2 (pullets?) and #3 and #4 (cockerels?).

Do you have a better picture of Nik? A close up of the same area like the second picture Beast. I dont see any saddle or hackle feathers on Nik, but it looks big like a rooster.
