Rhode island red chick Feathering in white-- updated w 7 wk old pic

It looks like you have a Golden Comet chick. They are laying machines. Mt. Healthy also has a Red Sex link that they call a "Red Cross" (Rhode Island Red male over a Columbian female) but they are usually a little darker red.

Guess I will hang on to the chick. Since it was born buff color does that make it a female? I havent looked into sex link much. If it us a girl I will throw her in our mutt coop. Just to make sure I dont keep her with my rhode islands & hatch out any of her eggs. Thanks for all the help with the ID!

Thats funny. I got an order of Golden Comets from Mt. Healthy, and theres a RIR in there. I think I got yours and you got mine!

I wouldn't immediately jump to the conclusion that the chick is a sex link, although, it is more likely. Same with being a pullet. A sex-link pullet is more likely, but that's the best one should say at this point. Post a photo of it in 8 weeks. You'll know much more then. For sure, it isn't a RIR

Nothing in life is absolute, but I'll stick with my assertion.

I will try to remember to repost in a few months & see the out come. The chick did get it's wing feathers fast. My order was almost a 50 - 50 split of ones that had early wing feathers. Tail feathers are just starting. We will know for sure in a few months I guess. Hate waiting!!!! Oh well, just part of it.

I'm just going on the fact that it looks just like the Golden Comet pullets I have in my brooder from Mt. Healthy. But I have been wrong once or twice in my life, so I guess we can agree to disagree and time will tell...
