I have 2 three month old hens, when I bought them as chicks at our local pet and garden place, one was confirmed to be a rhode island red. They weren't sure what the other one was, since it was yellow, but came with the rhode island red shipment. Since then she's grown feathers, but she has some black feathers and is larger than my rhode island red. Thought maybe the chicken experts here could help me figure out for sure what she is.

She's the one to the right in this one.

Thanks!

Maybe just a variant of the production red. Most feed store RIRs are actually production reds. I've had reds with some black feathers.

Yep, my hatchery RIR's all have some black feathers.

I have seen many RIR's with black flight feathers, tail feathers, and some black in the hackle but never on the wings like that, it almost looks spangled or primitive lacing.

They are production reds. Most all hatcheries sell production reds or a New Hampshire crossed with a production breed as RIR Reds.
RIR's should alot darker in color I would say as dark as a bing cherry. There are RIR pics here. http://www.crohio.com/reds/photo3.htm
