Rhode Island Red - Hen or Rooster?????

Please help - I have been told they are roosters - I thought they were hens when I bought them at 12 weeks old back in early Spring. This is a current picture of them now. What do you think???

The good news is that they are in beautiful condition. The bad news is that they are all cockerels. They look mature enough that they should be crowing.

That's what I was afraid of. When do they start crowing??

Onset of crowing varies from breed to breed and from bird to bird within breeds. (Some mature more rapidly than others.) I have had cockerels start crowing in the brooder (bantams) and some wait until 6 months + (larger slower maturing breeds).

Sorry about the roos, it seems like everybody is suffering with the same condition. Glad you joined the BYC flock.
