I have a Rhode Island Red that is over a year now (along with a flock of 15 other reds). I am wondering if it is a roo or a dominant hen. I have seen it get aggressive and do the whole challenge thing through the fence at our Polish. I have also seen it mount a hen (not in the way that they attack each other, but like a roo would). Yet, it doesn't have the featherings or spurs that a roo would have.

My question is...how long does it usually take for a Rhodie Roo to start showing his Roo-appearance? Our otherRhodie hens that are the same age have already been laying for 6 months or more.

hmmm that is an interesting one. I have a couple RIR and one Roo that showed all the comb and wobbles already and it is 15 wks. He is still not crowing but definitelly showing all traits of a Roo. It might just be a dominant hen.
