This is Red Hen! She loves to have her picture taken. She is 2 years old. And one lucky little lady. We started out with 25 chicks, the first time they were out side a skunk got into their little house and killed all but 7.

Then we transfered them to a wire coop. A coon killed 5 more. He pulled them through the holes of the coop. I had 2 left and the other one got a bad cut on her side and died last year. All I have left is miss Red from 25. Not a very good success rate but I wouldn't trade her for nothing!!!

Envirogirl, if you mean my "hen" has a big comb, he/she has spurs, too...hasn't crowed yet...I THINK he/she has laid eggs and I KNOW I've caught that one setting on the eggs, but my ex hubby's wife says he/she's a HE!!! And according to how many eggs I get, the 2nd wife also says "someone's not laying, and to look at the stance of the legs, if they are close together, no eggs are dropping down the man's pants!?!" (Then she laughs like crazy!) I just don't know...at least not yet...I'm considering putting that one in a cage to see if it does, in fact, lay eggs! This the very first flock I've ever had and am getting the second flock of chicks any day now, of BO's along w/two rir roo chicks, possibly getting the roo chicks is crazy if I already have a "silent" or gender mistaken Identity roo...???

yep, could be both...he/she's only been w/the ladies since birth and is prob "hen-pecked" LOL You'd think he/she'd have crowed by nearly 2 years old, eh? She's a manly one in looks?
(edited to include: In Alaska the odds are good and the goods are odd???)
