Rhode Island Red vs. New Hampshires

Rhode Island Reds or New Hampshires?

I got a industry NH in a very large batch of chicks, and maybe it was just because they didn't get handled enough, but Sunset was skittish and not friendly at all. She was pretty though and I think she layed well, though it's hard to monitor who's laying which eggs in a flock of 16 (thankfully I have since downsized).

I have had industry RIRs several times and love them! They are pretty, great layers, and are very friendly and sweet. I am trying for heritage RIRs soon!

A New Hampshire is just a SC Rhode Island Red improved by poultry breeders in New Hampshire.
Started around 1910 with SC Rhode Island Reds and bred them for production as dual purpose leaning towards meat more than eggs.
Selecting for a vigorous strain that would handle tough conditions and paying no attention to color or body shape the New Hampshire was developed with no outside blood being added.
No information on hatchery New Hampshire which some are sold as New Hampshire Red so won’t comment
