Hi all. I am fairly new at having chickens. Have a small but mature Rhode Island Red hen. She came to me with spotty patches of feathers missing. In places, the hard bottom part of the feather (sheath?) is still there. In other places, the skin is bare. I don't know if she is / was molting or if she came from a bad situation. It seemed her feather loss became worse when I introduced her into my flock. So I've separated her for her own good. Two days later, she has foamy discharge covering both eyes. This morning before I left, I put Salmut in her water. Her stools seem fine. Her eating (Layer pellets and cracked corn) has been normal.

Anyone able to help me? I lost one hen three weeks ago that was egg-bound - I caught on too late. Two months ago, I culled a chick that had significant leg paralysis for two days. Assumed it could be Mareks, but didn't pursue.

The rest of my flock appears fine.

Can anyone offer me any thoughts?

I don't know. This will get you back on top of the list.

There is another thread on this same topic going on right now. You may want to check it.
